  • Assists with reducing joint pain and inflammation
  • Promotes blood circulation
  • Acts as a self-massage, so your muscles relax
  • Helps break up scar tissue

When using a foam roller to loosen tight muscles, slowly maneuver the roller gently over tender areas of your body such as the hamstrings, quadriceps, hip flexors (front of your hips), gluteals (bum muscles), calves and the lower back; be sure to check with your physio when rolling out the lower back.

Most people have tightness in their body which can cause immense pain and restrict blood flow, so foam rolling is a quick and effective way to provide some relief from this.

Wisdom Physiotherapy may prescribe foam rolling into the ‘take home’ exercises following a Physio or Clinical Pilates consultation, which can really assist with muscles tightness. Foam rolling can be quite painful to begin with, but after a few uses this is reduced and it’s certainly a better alternative to ongoing muscle pain and inflexibility.
