Frequently Asked Questions:

Q. What conditions do Physiotherapists treat?

A. More than most people realise. At Wisdom Physio, we treat everything from the straightforward to the complex — and alot of things people have been quietly putting up with for years.

Day-to-day, that includes back pain, neck tension, headaches, shoulder problems, knee injuries, sports injuries, and Achilles or calf issues. We also treat jaw pain (TMJ), arthritis, hypermobility, fibromyalgia, and chronic pain.

We have a strong focus on pelvic health — for women, men, and children. That covers pelvic floor dysfunction, prolapse, incontinence, endometriosis pain, pregnancy-related pain, postnatal recovery, and even breastfeeding complications. These are things a lot of people assume they just have to live with. They don’t.

We also work with dancers, kids with walking concerns, and people managing ongoing conditions through exercise programs like Clinical Pilates and our GLAD hip and knee program.

If you’re not sure whether we can help with what you’ve got going on, just give us a call — we’d rather you ask than wonder.

Q. Do I need a referral from my GP to see a physiotherapist?

A. Nope — you can book directly with us, no referral needed. Just get in touch and we’ll take it from there.

Q. How much does a physiotherapy appointment cost?

A. It depends on a few things — the type of appointment, the length, and whether you’re seeing a senior or non-senior physiotherapist.

As a guide, a standard initial appointment with a non-senior physio currently starts from $123. From there, costs vary depending on what you need and how long your appointment runs.

The easiest way to get an exact figure is to mention what you’re coming in for when you book — we’ll make sure you’re in the right appointment at the right price.

Q. Can I claim Private Health Insurance on my Physio appointment?

A. Yes, you can use your Private Health Insurance to contribute towards your appointment if it covers Physiotherapy (generally, if you have extras, it will). How much you get back depends on the level of cover you have. We can swipe your card (or tap your phone on our machine) through our HICAPS terminal to claim, then you will just need to pay the gap if there is one. Many Private Health Funds now have the option of downloading an app and your card is on the app! For example, click here for the Medibank app and HBF app.

Q. Do you accept Medicare referrals (GP Chronic Disease Management Plans)?

A. Yes, we do. If your GP has referred you under a Chronic Disease Management Plan (sometimes called a CDMP or EPC plan), you can use that at Wisdom Physio.

We don’t bulk bill, so there will be a gap to pay on the day. Medicare currently rebates $61.80 per session — once you’ve reached your Medicare Safety Net for the year, that increases to 80% of the appointment fee.

If you’re not sure what gap you’d be up for, just ask when you book and we’ll give you a clear picture before your appointment.

Q. Do you treat WorkCover or MVA (motor vehicle accident) injuries?

A. Yes, we treat WorkCover and Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) injuries at both locations. What you’ll need to bring:

  • An approved claim number
  • A referral from your GP or treating specialist

We currently have one physiotherapist who bills directly to your insurer, so there’s no gap for you to pay – Christopher Goddard. All of our other Physiotherapists charge their usual fee, and you will need to claim this back from the insurer yourself (or, if you have a digital card from ICWA, we can process it on the day, leaving only the gap to pay). Call us if you’re still sorting out your claim — we can help you work out what you need and answer any further questions.

Q. Do you accept NDIS clients?

A. Yes, we do. At this stage we’re set up for self-managed NDIS clients only. If you’re self-managing your plan and looking for physiotherapy support, we’d love to help — just give us a call to chat through what you need before booking.

Q. What is the difference between Clinical Pilates and reformer Pilates?

A. Clinical Pilates is very different to a typical reformer Pilates class. At Wisdom Physio, Clinical Pilates is physiotherapist-led and tailored specifically to your body, injury, goals and movement patterns.

Rather than everyone doing the same workout, your program is individually designed and adjusted as you improve. We use a combination of reformers, mats and other equipment to help improve strength, control, mobility and movement quality — especially during rehabilitation from pain or injury.

Reformer Pilates classes are often fitness-based and designed for general exercise, whereas Clinical Pilates is focused on treatment, rehabilitation and long-term movement health. You can read more about the differences here.

Q. What can I expect at my first Physiotherapy appointment?

A. Before treatment, we take the time to understand your concerns and goals, assess your movement and symptoms, and create a personalised treatment plan tailored to you.

Your initial appointment includes a thorough assessment and hands-on treatment. We also offer longer or shorter appointments depending on the complexity of your condition.
